A mannequin placed on top of a billboard prompted a series of emergency calls from distressed motorists who believed a suicidal person was about to jump to their death.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to US Highway 61 near Sperry in Des Moines County, Iowa, responding to a possible jumper.
But Sheriff Mike Johnstone said his deputies soon realised it was a mannequin on top of the sign, which read:
‘I can see Deery Brothers in West Burlington from here.’
Brad Deery, who owns the Deery Brothers car dealership, promised Johnstone he would take the mannequin down after speaking to the sheriff.
