Lots of people have experienced noisy neighbours in their lifetimes – but this one is a complete cock.

A cockerel in popstar Ed Sheeran’s home town, named Rory, has received complaints from neighbours who aren’t keen on his daily dawn chorus.

His owner, Julie Smith, has been handed a notice ordering her to keep the noise down – and her feathered friend has been handed an Asbo.

Julie, 56, lives 10 minutes from Ed Sheeran’s family home in Framlingham, Suffolk.

She originally received a noise nuisance letter from the council on April 6. Eight days later she was visited unannounced by its environmental protection team.

But mum-of-three Julie says 126 fellow villagers have voiced their support for Rory.

She said: ‘The roads and cars on our street are noisier than Rory.

‘I’ve spoken to my neighbours, and all of them say once they shut the window, they can’t hear a thing – but someone obviously has a problem with him.

‘Framlingham is an old market town, and it is perfectly natural for residents to own poultry and grow their own vegetables.

‘I’ve owned cockerels and hens for 15 years, and its since they’ve developed new houses surrounding my property that I’ve received complaints.

‘The environmental officer who came round wouldn’t tell me who specifically complained, just that I needed to keep Rory quiet.

‘Its frustrating that the council aren’t meeting me half way on a solution. I can’t afford to build a £500 hen house in my back garden.

‘I’ve rehomed cockerels before in a similar situation, but I refuse to give in this time – I’ll be fighting to keep Rory and I have started a campaign to gather support.

‘Maybe Ed Sheeran will even get involved in helping spread the word.’

Julie, an accounting technician, was issued a noise abatement order, instructing her to reduce Rory’s decibels or face giving him up.

She’s now started a social media campaign opposing the complaint – but maybe the solution is for Rory to stop Thinking Out Loud.

And Rory isn’t the only noisy bird receiving criticism, as a woman in Yorkshire faced enforcement action after her cockerels kept waking people up at 4am.
