
This year’s Oscar nominations will be announced in less than an hour, and the excitement is palpable this time around, because there is so much British talent up for possible recognition in the leading categories.

Eddie Redmayne triumphed at the Golden Globes at the weekend, for his role in ‘The Theory of Everything’. Benedict Cumberbatch and Rosamund Pike were both nominated for a Globe, too, and will be hoping to be in the shortlist for the Academy Awards.
Ralph Fiennes will also be keeping an ear out for his comedic turn in ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination in the Comedy category.
This lot are up against some stiff competition, however, with Michael Keaton, Jennifer Aniston, Julianne Moore, all vying for honours in the same categories.
The Oscar nominations will be made this year by ‘Star Trek’ star Chris Pine, directors Alfonso Cuaron and JJ Abrams, as well as the Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs, on the stroke of 1.30pm GMT.
