A woman who was known for feeding bears may have been killed by one of them, officials say.
Sheriff Darryl Liverman told media outlets that Kay Grayson, 67, may have been dead for more than a fortnight when her body was found in an area of woodland in Tyrrell County, North Carolina.
And Liverman said that it is likely that Mrs Grayson – who was known for feeding bears – was killed by one of the animals she loved.
‘Based on what we saw, it appeared a bear dragged her back into the woods,’ he said, adding that it was not yet certain that was the cause of death.
Mrs Grayson, who had fed the animals for more than 20 years, was known to authorities because of frequent calls made to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission in which she complained about hunters.
